Boxsdk search not working

Will removing excess data, versions improve performance?

We have been on Box for almost 8 years and have around 275TB of data and shuffle around 8.5TB/month. Much of that is legacy data archived on service accounts and files with many versions no longer relevant. Keynote collaboration for example saves hundreds if not thousands of versions of our files as we build decks...but we’re not reverting or looking at hundreds of versions of files that were presented 5 years ago. I’ve written a script to prune out old versions and will leave behind the 3 most recent versions plus 7 additional versions spaced out over the file’s life. In this way, I can find an archive folder with data many years old, provide that to my script, let it search, sort, and remove the excess data no longer needed. Other than reducing extra junk on the platform, will removing unneeded data (most of which is not visible to many users and stored only in service accounts for archival purposes) improve the performance on Box? Specifically navigation and search. Is it better to

I can see the file statistics but the downloaded csv report for that file statistics is headers only.

I can see the file statistics but the downloaded csv report for that file statistics contains only the headers: Date, User Name, User Email, Action, Affected, Details. There are no statistics displayed in the .csv file report that would show the activity on that file. I can see the statistics but when I download them as a report, it is blank.

Add shared link to file via API

for some reason, I can create a shared link on the site, but it is not displayed during API requests. I tried to create a shared link to the file through the api, however, I get the 403 Forbidden error. What could be wrong? Do I need any special permissions?

Help with Account access required yet no response from support team

Hi there everyone - one of our ex -team member box account have been the master folder which we save a lot of our work and now his access to box have been blocked as he have left some months back and we did not realise it until we could not access our files today. When we try to reset the password, the password reset did not come through, we are stuck now and support is not responding to our urgent request since a couple of hours back. What can we do?

Sensitive and Risky Information in Box: Recommendations for Scanning and Discovery?

Looking for an enterprise-level Box user to help solve a puzzle!Anybody have have experience using Netwrix, Spirion, BigID, or Purview to scan a Box instance for sensitive information?   As an Information Governance and Records Management consultant, I work with large organizations managing massive data volumes (10+ PB). Many of them store 50+ TB in Box.Our clients need a tool that can scan a Box repository and identify PII, PHI, PCI, and other risky content, and generate a report.I'm aware Box offers a proactive real-time monitoring for detection/classification—I'm just looking for a reporting solution that can scan the content and provide reports (ideally with the capability to do incremental scans after that).  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance for your help and support!Jeff

Folder Comparison

We have a lot of folders in Box that contains a lot of duplicative folders/files and wanted to find a way to compare them so that if They are the same, we can just delete one of them One has more files, delete the one with less files Missing files in either folders, synch them and delete one of them.I’m not sure if Box have this capability or not.  Secondly, Box Drive doesn’t show certain type of files, we can’t really do an apple-to-apple comparison between the folders using third party software on our local Box Drive.Any suggestion, API, etc is greatly appreciate.

Is it possible to set Closed Captions to play automatically when a VTT file is included?

We’ve recently been adding the VTT files alongside the MP4 files on our own platform and I was wondering if it were possible to set closed captions to play by default if the VTT file is present, rather than the user having to turn it on. I’m also checking in our LMS to see if I can do anything there, but thought I’d check with the source first.Many thanks

Can I prevent internal users from utizing Box in certain countries?

Yes, you could configure a Suspicious Location rule limiting access, and exempt the organization from it except for the intended user, then enable the automatic blocking option.

Powershell and Updating Metadata

I have been messing around a bit with metadata templates and Box API.  I found that I’m required to use the PUT method when updating a file or folder, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why I keep getting errors from the server.https://developer.box.com/guides/metadata/instances/update/#:~:text=To%20update%20the%20metadata%20to,data%20on%20the%20template%20instance.Using the link above, I have been trying to get the payload to match this exactly, but to no avail.I have tried using “PUT” to post the payload, but I receive an unsupported media type, if I wing it and put POST, it says it’s a bad request.I use POST to apply the template in question, and it works just fine, but I seem to be missing the connection between Powershell, PUT, and updating metadata via Box API.Does anyone have an example of a successful metadata update via powershell? For a folder, specifically.

Not receiving authorisation email

Hello. I’m hoping someone can help with this…I am trying to set up an app, to support the migration of some files from Box to a different storage system.I’ve set up the app on the developer console and it is showing as ‘Pending authorisation’, waiting for our admin to approve.But I am the admin and I’ve not received any emails or contact about it.Any advice on how I can get authorised?Thank you!

Use of Content Delivery Network (CDN) in Box

Is Content Delivery Network (CDN) being used in Box? When I upload any file in any folder in Box, does it get cached all across the world and the user who downloads the file gets it from his/her nearest location (and therefore reduces the latency to a great extent) ? If that is so, it would be great if you can direct me to the right box documentation area / link.

Embed Widget uploader display name comes through as null

Hello I need some help finding the email address value for a file uploaded from the embed widget in the API.  I’m using Box.Sdk.Gen.  Currently if a file is uploaded from the embedded widget, I cannot see fileUploadedBy (the value is null).  Also, file.CreatedBy, and file.ModifiedBy are tracked with an ‘Anonymous User’ value.  I can see the value displayed in the folder under the column ‘Updated’ on box.com.  Can someone help me get to the field for the email address that submitted the file?

Let’s say i have a subfolder  like  parent/subfolder1/subfolder2. Is there any way i can use this relative path parent/subfolder1/subfolder2 in rest api for listing items under the folder? or to download a file under a folder parent/subfolder1/subfolder2/file1 ?

mxHERO + Hubspot integration for routing files to opportunities

Hello,I have a customer that has Box integrated with mxHERO and Hubspot. They use mxHERO to take any attachments sent by customers and put them in Box, however this does not link them to the specific opportunity in Hubspot, only the contact that they were sent by. Locally Cached Files & Security

When you add or open a file in Box Drive, Box copies the file into the Drive cache folder, which creates a local copy of the file. Box has also confirmed that this cache folder is not encrypted. If you work for an organization that must keep sensitive data off of local machines, what is your work around? We thought using only the Box Online option and restricting Box Drive usage was an option but all files still open locally. The entire purpose of Box is to eliminate the need for sensitive data to be saved on local machines, but because of how the cache folder operates, that is not possible.

Is there a way to tell if a folder/file has been deleted via API response from the /folders/{folder_id} endpoint?

Is there a way to tell if a folder/file has been deleted from the /files/{file_id} endpoint? Should I be including a specific field in the fields query param to get this data? Was looking at the example API response and it looks like there’s a field called "trashed_at" that indicated when a folder was deleted but if it hasn’t been deleted will that field be null or not even be returned?  Same for Groups/Users?

How to enable folder selection in hosted file picker widget 

We want to use hosted box file picker as followinghttps://app.box.com/index.php?rm=box_select_view&client_id=123&link_type=folder&multiselect=false&picker_id=uniquePickerIdFile selection works fine but we cannot select folders. Is there an option that we can use to enable folder selection as well?
