Box fails to Auto-Update

We’re having an issue with one of our user’s Macbook’s. Box fails to Auto Update for some reason. 

This is a Company Portal installation and we have custom configuration profiles setup to allow Box full disk access and what not. 

All our other Mac user’s do not get this error/pop up so I'm certain it’s an issue specifically with this user’s MacBook but I’ve tried resetting Box, and uninstalling/re-installing with a new Intune package. This error continuously pops up.

Anyone encounter this before? The mac is running Sequoia and is an apple silicon Mac.

My initial guess is that there might be some hidden/background process that’s lingering from the current client. Does uninstalling → restart → install (or even better, explicitly checking Activity Monitor on this particular machine to ensure no lingering Box Drive process sticks around after the restart) allow the update to go through?

There are no lingering processes after an uninstallation, however, I am unable to force an uninstall from Terminal as Box Helper and Box Edit start back up upon a force quit when Box is installed. 

 

Something else I notice is that a different pop up appear when I force quit Box and reboot. The pop up states that Box is too out of date and must be re-installed. I don’t believe this though as I have the most recent version packaged in Intune. Which is peculiar because if it’s the most up to date version why is it even try to install an update in the first place.

​@sbach Just for sanity’s sake, when you check your version on the currently installed version of Box Drive, what you do see?

Version info can be found by:

  1. Opening the Box Drive UI (ctrl + option + cmd + space)
  2. Hitting the gear icon on the bottom right
  3. Selecting About Box Drive.
