Total number of files under a folder?

Is there API endpoint to count the number of files under a folder? We can get the counts by iteratively getting the counts under subfolder. This is resource intensive and does not seem to be a good way to get the counts especially because there is a request rate limit imposed.

How to include file_version.created_at and file_versrion.created_by on GetFileAsync method

Using .Net Library. var result = _boxClient.FilesManager…GetInfomationAsync(fileId, “file_version”) returns file_version (Id and Version number) But I need to get file version created_by and created_at. I tried this. var result = _boxClient.FilesManager…GetInfomationAsync(fileId, “file_version”, “created_at”, “created_by”) it includes created_at and created_by for the original file; but not for the file version. So I tried this: var result = _boxClient.FilesManager…GetInfomationAsync(fileId, “file_version”, “file_version.created_at”, “file_version.created_by”) and still does not work. Any help?

Folder.name (or File.name) property doesn't pass mypy check

Hi, let’s say that I have a folder id as string. I can get folder object from folder id as: folder = self._client.folder(folder_id=folder_id).get() Now I would like to iterate over folder items that can be files or (sub)folders. for item in folder.get_items(): if item.type == 'folder': sub_folder_path = folder_path + '/' + folder.name For last line mypy reports: 64: error: “Folder” has no attribute “name” [attr-defined] Looks like folder (the same is for file as well) has .name property, but it is injected somehow on the fly. I don’t like putting #noqa nor doing hacks. Is there anything I can do to pass mypy check with this line? Regards, Zoran

Could not read environments config file ~.boxox_environments.json

Hi very new to CLI and Box. Trying to follow the “Use Box CLI with OAuth 2.0” guide and got this error when trying to define my environment using the command “box login -n <environment_name>”. I have checked the config file in the listed path and the config file is empty (not sure if it’s supposed to have content). I successfully used the “box login -n <environment_name>” command the other day when trying to follow the guide however it does not work today. Searching online brought me to this forum post: boxcli error "Could not read environments config file" – Box Support however I am so new I don’t know how to download a new config file from the provided link to the developer console. For now I will try to download new config file but does anyone have any idea why my config file would stop working in this manner? Thank you.

Uploading via Server-Side Login via API

I wanted to ask your support in regards to uploading PDF’s via a server-side login (without human intervention). We are uploading to third-party boxes, which our account has been given access to (not our own Boxes). Error: We are receiving the below error message when uploading the PDF’s via API: boxsdk.exception.BoxOAuthException: Message: Grant credentials are invalid The login to Box is valid. The error pops up when uploading to one of the folders. Box API is not returning the files consistently

Hi, We have observed that the Box API is not returning the files consistently in multiple runs, however, this issue is occurring rarely. Sometimes it fetches less files than what is present in the Box without making any changes anywhere. Client Credentials Grant User ID Access_token failed

I would like to obtain Access_Token through ‘Client Credentials Grant’. I created a New App through the My Apps menu. Administrator approval was obtained through the Authorization tab. Box List Recent Events API - `path_collection.entries.has_collaborations`

Hello - Using the Box List Recents API, I would like to exclude any events where the root-level parent folder is private (has_collaborations=false). It looks like I can pass has_collaborations as a field, but this only tells me about the item itself - I need to know if the item’s root level parent is also private. To get the parent, I can use path_collection, but when passing path_collection.entries.has_collaborations as a field to https://api.box.com/2.0/recent_items, nothing is returned. Is there another way to exclude recent events where the parent event is private? Thanks,

Use List items in folder using access_token through Enterprise ID

I created the access_token through Enterprise ID. The authentication method used was Client Credentials Grant. I obtained the access_token. I called the ‘List items in folder’ API using this access_token. I entered 0 for ‘folder_id’. However, as a result, no error message appeared and ‘total_count’ was output as 0. Clearly this folder exists. So I made the same call to the ‘List items in folder’ API using the ‘Developer Token’. The folder was output normally. Why can’t I get a list of folders when I create an access_token with ‘enterprise ID’? reference. If I create an access_token using OAuth 2.0, I can get the list of folders normally. Thanks.

"Could not upload file" error message while uploading folder

Hi, When using the following command line: box folders:upload --parent-folder=xxxxxx [folder_to_upload] I am getting error messages “Could not upload file” not related to the size of the file. Sometimes these are .txt extensions but it can happen as well with other extensions such as .log, .json, these are usually small files of a few k. Is it possible to know why the files cannot be uploaded and is there a option to skip this error and continue the upload of the folder? the annoying bit is that the data transfer stops after this error. Upload API throwing 415 Unsupported Media Type javascript

I’ve been trying calling the upload API for box in node.js application and keep getting 415 Unsupported_Media_Type. I gave the correct parent id. Also tried using both parent_id and parent: { ‘id’: ‘12345’} response.status = 415 response.statusText = Unsupported Media Type I also tried "Try this API’ on the developers page and just get ‘An unknown error occured’. When tried to get more details from the browser developer tools then I see that the call just returned as above 415 and unsupported media type message. If I include 'Content-type" header with multipart/form-data then it doesn’t find the file part. What is the wrong with the following code? I have this error (in title) when i use JWTAuth, i think it’s because my enterprise ID is not valid, where can in find it? do i have to be admin in my enterprise to have access to it? When I point at getusers/me i don’t have information on my enterprise, did it mean that i don’t have enterprise?

Automatically create file event workflows in each new folder

We use a workflow to set up the same folder structure under each new main file we add. So it works like Smith, John → Internal → Folder A → External → Folder A So the internal is for team member use, and the external is shared with clients to upload folders into. This structure gets created automatically each time we add a main folder using Box relay workflows. We would like to add the rule so that any file uploaded to Smith/External/Folder A gets copied to Smith/Internal/Folder A, and send a notification to the team. It doesn’t seem like there is a way to generically create those type of triggered rules through the AI, is there a way to do so through the API and SDK?

Can I curl Box to get a list of my files changed in the last hour

Hi, I am completely new to Box so please let me know if I am in the wrong place. I would like to be able to run a Curl command to pull a list of files modified in the last hour from my All Files view and it should look down through child folders. I found this: https://developer.box.com/reference/get-folders-id-items/ which is nearly there but it needs a Token. And when I look for how to create a token I see https://developer.box.com/guides/authentication/tokens/access-tokens/ but the example there dont show the -d values. I suspect I am on the wrong trail. Can What is the easiest way to create a token that I can use? Thanks

Retrieving Folder ID based on path

I am trying to retrieve the Folder ID based on the path of the folder using Microsoft Power Automate. I don’t see a Power Automate Action that accomplishes this. I’m not a developer so I am looking for a simple way to retrieve this information using the Box API. Any ideas?

Hi Box Developer Community! My company is looking to engage a freelance developer to assist with an API integration between Box and our Salesforce CRM, as well as uploading files to Box via API. Our question is where to find developers that have experience with the Box API and are available for a short term project like ours. LinkedIn is our usual source but is not good at searching for experience with a particular software like Box. A colleague suggested Fiverr as a possible source for this specialized talent. Help needed Integrating Box with Memberspace

Can the Memberspace create account functionality duplicate with Box, so when users create a memberspace account on my website they also have created a Box account/login? Then when they click on the file request link on my website or a shared linked on my website they will be automatically redirected to Box and they will know its the same log in to use as memberspace (or will still be logged in via the redirect) This will allow my customers to freely upload, edit, view etc Documents that are specifically for them (hosted on Box) but only accessible through a Memberspace login.

Box API support for PKCE?

The OAuth 2.1 “spec” simplifies some of the OAuth 2.0 specifications (e.g. eliminates those that are no longer considered secure, etc). One of the things OAuth 2.1 suggests is using PKCE even for Confidential (Server Side Clients). Here’s what OAuth 2.1 says, " PKCE is required for all OAuth clients using the authorization code flow" I don’t see any mention of PKCE in the Box documentation. Can you tell me if PKCE is being considered for future Box authentication?
