I’d like to automate and schedule a file transfer from a network drive to a folder in BOX. Is there a way to do that? Do I have to write some sort of script, or does BOX have a tool to do that for you.

We have Box Relay, which is a workflow automation tool that also allows you to trigger scheduled events. However, you can only create workflows that involve folders you own, co-own, or can edit.

Thanks for your quick reply; very much appreciated. 

So, in a nutshell, you are correct. We have a network drive/folder (just a windows-based network folder), where files get placed on a monthly basis. We want to transfer them to a BOX folder that I have shared out to a few users on a scheduled basis for them to access. Right now, I copy these files manually. So...I thought automating this process would save some time. 

It’s good to know that Box Relay might fit the bill, but I’m guessing that Box Relay is a different component, and perhaps one that we would need to purchase as an organization. Is that correct? I don’t see it on the left side of my menu items.

It might be possible to do this via Shuttle, depending on your network drive. You may check out this announcement about Box Shuttle schedule jobs by date and time to learn more. In addition, you can install the Box Shuttle Windows Agent and run migrations from Windows sources.

 

Box Shuttle is available in the Admin Console, allowing admins to access it directly without needing to log in to a separate solution.

To access Box Shuttle:

  1. In the Admin Console, go to the Content section.
  2. Navigate to the Shuttle tab to view the Jobs Dashboard.

For further questions or assistance with Shuttle and its functionality, please submit a support ticket, and our Product Support team will reach out to you. For inquiries about features, including Shuttle, you may contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM). If you do not have an assigned CSM or are unsure who your CSM is, you can reach out to our Sales Team.

 

On the other hand, Box Relay is a separate feature within Box designed to automate workflows. If you are trying to use this feature but do not see it, it is likely that your admin has not yet enabled it. Please refer to Enabling Box Relay for Your Organization for guidance.
