Question

Cannot Delete files and folders

I'm sharing a box drive with a friend,
I'm the only one who cannot delete or rename files or folders, and I can only add files.
When viewed on the web, I don't see a menu for deleting files at all, and even in the desktop client, files revert back to their original state after being deleted or renamed.

How can I get things back to normal?

👋 Hi @hans8501 Welcome to the Box Community!

It’s possible that you have a “Viewer Uploader” access level. I outlined the definition below for quick reference:

  • A combination of Viewer and Uploader.

  • Has full read access to a folder and limited write access.

  • Able to preview, download, add comments, generate shared links, and upload content to the folder.

  • Not able to add tags, invite new collaborators, modify file names, or delete items in the folder.

  • To update a file, people with this permission had to download a file, edit it locally, and re-upload (using the same file name).

  • Can use Box Edit to perform the same action (download, edit, and re-upload) seamlessly.

See What Are the Different Collaboration Roles in Box? community article to learn more about roles.

To check and modify your access, please reach out to the file/folder owner. Have a wonderful day! 🌻
