I need to download the file from box server and make it accessible offline.


Do I choose "Sync to Desktop" in the browser, or right-click on the file shown on my computer and choose "make available offline"?


What is the difference between these two?


I found that the "Sync to Desktop" does not immediately trigger the "box Drive" app on my laptop to sync the files. Or even, syncs only parts of the files, and leaves the rest unsynced. 


Meanwhile, the "make available offline" seems to do the trick. But I'm not sure if the files made offline available are still synced with box server.


That is to say, if the file gets updated on the server, the offline available files on my computer are also updated/synced or not?

Sync or Sync to Desktop is specifically a functionality of Box Sync and not of Box Drive. Box Sync and Box Drive are two separate desktop applications that allows you to access your Box content from your desktop computer.


With Box Sync, you will have to manually mark your folders to Sync from Box.com and allow the Box Sync app to download those folders to your desktop. Box Drive does not use this function, in fact Box Drive automatically allows you to access ALL of your folders and files in a form of "cache data" the moment you logged into the app. Box Drive has a function that is somewhat similar to the "Sync" option which is called "Mark for offline" which makes your contents available for offline use in your PC.
