Question

Log in problems

It seems that the login sequence to Box Drive should be - enter email address. Click ‘next’. Enter password. Off we go …

but if I try that then clicking ‘next’ give me an error message. i’ve tried it time after time.

What does work for me reliably is - enter email address. Click ‘next’.  Get the error meaage.  Click on ‘try again’.  Enter (the same) email address. Click  ‘next’. Now I get the password-request box and it all goes well from here.

Although this seems a reliable route, it’s obviously more time-consuming and indicates there’s some sort of problem which might make my life even more difficult in the future.

How can I get the log-in sequence to behave more sensibly?

👋 Hi @David P! Welcome to the Box Community. Sorry to hear you’re encountering login issues with Box Drive.

Regarding the error message when you log in to Box Drive, could you please provide the exact message or share a screenshot of the error? Is this ‘login sequence’ also happens when you’re logging in from your web browser via app.box.com/login?

Also, have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling and updating Box Drive? If you’re experiencing interface issues, please also try updating your browser or operating system to the latest version. Check out this article, "Understand the Box Policy For Browser And OS Support," to learn more.

We look forward to resolving this login behavior. 😊

I first direct my browser to  - https://www.box.com/login/.  Having entered my email address I click the big blue ‘next’ box and get the message as shown in the picture. When I click on ‘click here to try again’ the login sequence restarts but this time it asks for email, then password and it all works OK. This series of steps seems quite repeatable.

I wan’t aware that I had installed ‘Box Drive’. ‘Box’ is not listed in my Windows 8.1  control panel list of installed programs; I can’t find a folder in C:\program files which seems to relate. All I did was to use my browser (Firefox) to set up an account.

Hello @David P, thanks for your response and for providing more insights into the login issue.

Can you please try this updated link for login: https://app.box.com/login? The link you provided is an old one. I tried accessing the old link, and it gives me the same error, asking me to try again. I believe this is what's causing the login issue.

Also, you’re probably referring to the web app or online access to Box, and not Box Drive. If you’re not using this and haven’t installed it, please disregard my initial response about uninstalling/reinstalling.

Please let me know how the login process goes to ensure that you have a smooth user experience. Otherwise we’ll submit a ticket for you to further investigate the issue.

Have a great day! 🌻

The revised link you gave me works. Thank you! That problem is solved.

When I try to reply to your email above (by clicking in the empty ‘reply’ box) I get a message saying ‘sign in using …...’ and a reference to some acronym which doesn’t seem to be described anywhere. You see I have managed to get write-access to the reply box by logging in using my Box account email address and password. Is this what was intended? What does the acronym stand for?

Wouldn’t it be more helpful not to use a cryptic acronym at all, but rather say ‘log in using your Box account details’? There’s plenty of space on the screen at that point to contain the extra text.

Hello @David P, glad to know that the new link resolved the issue you’re experiencing.

I believe the code/acronym you're referring to is the login window below. You logged in using the updated link, which likely required you to log in again to the Box Community page in order to interact with posts.

OAuth stands for Open Authorization, while SSO stands for Single Sign-On. Our login page allows you to access the Box Community page using your Box credentials or SSO, which simplifies the process by eliminating the need to create and manage a separate account.

I completely understand how this might cause confusion for users, and we will take this as feedback to improve the login interface.

We truly appreciate your valuable feedback and the time you’ve taken to help us resolve this issue. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other concerns. 😊💙
