I am working on a talk in Latex and it needs some graphic files for illustration. The tex file and the png and jpeg files sit inside the same folder on Box and unfortunately the image files can never be found when trying to  compile the tex into pdf files on Texshop.

(1) There seems to be some problem with Box seeing graphic files in the same folder as the tex file that uses them. I looked at the ‘file info’ details and I have permissions to read and write for all involved. The info file actually displays the correct graphic file that Texshop cannot access. Weird. All looks good, but inside Box compilations, the graphic files cannot be found, so the console of Texshop tells me.

(2) I have another folder on Box with tex and graphic files and those can always be compiled together easily in Texshop. Their file infos do not look any different at all and they work together as designed.

(3) I cannot see any way out to correct this Box incompatability mess up.  I tried to export the tex and graphic files from Box to my Macbook, but they could not be moved from Box.  Why is that so? Maybe I should mail them to myself and download them from there to the Macbook? How complicated can that get  … That issue of recompiling locally does not exist in Box, it seems. Maybe I should learn how to pull the folders themselves onto the Macbook and compile the pdf files there. Can that be done somehow?

(4) I am at a loss.I would like to add screen shots here, but I see no way to add such here. Does BOX help not use screen shots, does not allow them somehow? Embedding files only goes via urls here, or so it says. And how do I create urls now for simple png files for Box’s eyes to see? Drag and drop does not work here? I have to put screenshot png files on my website somewhere first  … ?

Thanks for any help. I might have to give my invited talks in June with blanks instead of illustrations anyway. Because dumb me went into box,  …

Sorry about this problem, but it hurts to spend afternoons and mornings with (1) trough (4) without any way to solve this issue.

Thank you, Frank U   I do hope that you have my email  :     uhligfd@auburn.edu

OOPS, how do I send this out?

I just saw the ^^ icon to upload and I cannot upload the screenshots from OneDrive where they were put: nothing shows. Bad set-up here on my side. Sorry.

I might have to send them to my mail server and unravel them from there  ...

Hi @uhligfd 👋 Welcome to the Box Community! Sorry to hear you had issues integrating graphic files.

I believe integrating graphic files into LaTeX documents stored on Box or any cloud service involves local compilation setup. Have you tried to compile the document using a LaTeX editor on your computer (e.g., TeXShop, Overleaf, or VSCode with LaTeX workshop)? Make sure to place graphic files in the same directory as your .tex file or within a subfolder. Also checking the resources, you can use the graphicx package to integrate images: \usepackage{graphicx}

While we can provide general information, since your concern about this integration requires technical assistance and review of account/integration settings, I highly suggest for you to submit a ticket to our Product Support. Our Support team will assist you further and provide guides on how to resolve your concern.

Meanwhile, you may check these resources related to inserting graphics, images, or figures in LateX:

Lastly, for community posts, you can upload helpful images and screenshots by clicking the “insert image” icon:

The files are those stored in your local drive or locations that Box supports. One Drive is supported by Microsoft, possibly the reason why it’s not showing the uploaded screenshots for you to insert here.

Sorry for any limitations and thanks for your patience and cooperation to have this issue resolved. Have a good one! 🤗
