When an employee within my company with whom we shared multiple Box folders at various levels leaves our company, can we just remove him as a collaborator altogether within our account, with one click? Or do we need to search out all folders shared with him and remove him from each individually?
Hi
Â
This can be done in bulk on your end using the API or CLI. Here are a few community resources on these options:
- Delete Collaborators API:Â https://developer.box.com/reference/delete-collaborations-id/
- Delete Collaborators CLI:Â https://github.com/box/boxcli/blob/main/docs/Bulk%20actions/collaborations/collaborations-delete.csv
Please check out our Developer Guides for more information.
Admins can run the Collaborations Report to obtain the collaboration ID for the external user and plug these values into the API or CLI.
There are also a few features that may be helpful:
- Updating Collaborations via the Content Manager (can be performed by admins for managed users within the same enterprise)
- Updating Collaborations at the Folder Level
These features still require you to go user by user and/or folder by folder, as they do not support bulk operations. If you need further assistance or are encountering an issue while removing a collaborator, please submit a support ticket.
You may also check out the Managing Collaborators article for other possible solutions to manage collaborations, such as auto-expiration.
Furthermore, if you're looking for a specific feature related to this functionality that isn’t available above, we highly recommend for you to post your idea on Box Pulse. We're always striving to improve Box, and customer feedback is regularly reviewed by our Product Team for future consideration.

Have a great day ahead!Â
