Metadata taxonomies provide a hierarchical relationship between fields for better metadata management and much more efficient user experience. We recently released the ability to support metadata taxonomies when extracting structured data from unstructured content and saving that data as metadata alongside content in Box with Box Extract. This capability allows teams to fully automate and operationalize their most complex, hierarchical metadata structures.Taxonomies allow Box administrators to model reusable, hierarchical schemas (such as Country → State/Province → City) to represent multi-level choices within metadata templates. This release ensures that these sophisticated structures can now be seamlessly processed and populated with extracted data using Box Extract. Teams can now enable and extract taxonomy-backed fields already attached to your metadata templates, turning previously static, disabled fields into active, automated data streams. Instead of configuring extraction instru

He emphasizes that while GDPR doesn't mandate data location, storing data within a specific region like the EU simplifies compliance and mitigates the risk of significant financial penalties. This sets the stage for why a solution like Box Zones is essential for global organizations.Box Zones Expansion and Overview: The roundtable highlights the largest expansion in Box Zones history, bringing the total number of available zones to ten. This includes three brand-new zones in Switzerland, Singapore, and Israel, and significant compute upgrades for the existing Canada an

We've been busy making Box Notes a better place to review, refine, and work together. This quarter brings a more unified commenting experience across Notes and Preview, alongside a set of interface updates and shortcuts designed to make everyday editing faster and cleaner. On the collaboration side, comments and annotations now live together in a single comment pane. Box Notes will no longer distinguish between comments on the overall note and annotations on specific content — both appear together for a more consistent review flow. In Preview, both types are also surfaced under the Activity pane. You can reply to any comment within a threaded conversation and use @mentions to loop in the right collaborators. When a discussion wraps up, mark the thread as resolved — it'll move into a Resolved filter and can be reopened later if needed. Original authors can delete their own comments, but note that deleting a root comment deletes the entire thread. And if you rely heavily on comments, dr
Box Notes now offers a seamless AI experience by unifying conversation history between the inline AI composer and the sidebar. Whether you start a conversation inline while writing or switch to the sidebar for a broader view, your AI session stays connected as one continuous thread. The inline view keeps things light by showing only inline turns, while the sidebar view displays the complete session history across both entry points, clearly labeling which turns happened inline. This update benefits anyone who drafts documents with AI assistance and wants context to follow them wherever they work. Writers refining a section paragraph by paragraph, teams generating structured content, and Enterprise Plus and Enterprise Advanced customers leveraging the Box Agent will all find it easier to maintain momentum without losing track of previous prompts. A couple of things to keep in mind: only one active AI turn can be in progress per note at a time. If one view is waiting on a response, you wo
Admins can configure which users and groups are forced to leverage a specific recipient authentication method for all signature requests sent from those predetermined users. We introduced the ability for admins and co-admins to enforce recipient authentication on all signature requests sent on behalf of the enterprise, giving them centralized control over how signers verify their identity before accessing and signing critical documents in highly regulated industries, public sector organizations, and security-conscious enterprises.Government signers are often mandated to use CAC/PIV (Common Access Card / Personal Identity Verification) cards or multi-factor authentication (MFA) to sign documents. With this capability, we are giving organizations in heavily regulated industries the ability to comply with strict compliance requirementsPreviously, enforcing recipient authentication for each signature request was a manual process that relied on individual senders or template creators selecti

Video files aren’t supported yet. For photos, it should work as long as they’re in one of the supported formats: JPEG, JPG, TIF, TIFF, or PNG This could be along the lines of EXIF data too, which isn't really an AI thing, but rather just a data layer Box could scrape. https://photographylife.com/what-is-exif-data Box Consulting has a custom offering for both one-time EXIF scrape from a set of existing files and go-forward application of EXIF data. A workaround is extract from the video transcript, although you don’t get the full context of the video.
Thanks to @rrajwade for yesterday’s overview and demos of Box Agent, also thanks to our guests who joined and shared in the Q&A. The session was an opportunity for users to ask questions and provide feedback on Box's AI journey. Box Agent Overview@rrajwade provides a foundational overview of the Box Agent. The core value proposition is using AI with content to accelerate knowledge work. Key features discussed include: Recursive Box Agent: Instead of multiple single-purpose agents, Box has developed a single, powerful recursive agent capable of planning and iterating on complex, multi-step tasks. It consolidates capabilities like Q&A, search, and content generation. Box AI Studio: A platform for customers to build their own custom agents, providing them with specific knowledge, detailed instructions, and tools to perform specialized tasks. ProMode: An enhanced mode for any agent that enables a deeper level of thinking and synthesis for more complex work, going beyond simp
We're incredibly excited to announce the launch of Box agent security and governance controls, a purpose-built suite that gives customers the confidence to deploy AI agents safely across their enterprise content. 🔒 What is Box agent security and governance?Box agent security and governance is the content-native protection layer built for AI agents operating on enterprise data. It detects and blocks prompt injection attacks before they reach the model, enforces admin-defined guardrails on what agents can do, and provides full auditability of every agent action. Because security is enforced at the content layer, governance travels with the file regardless of whether Box AI, Copilot, Claude, or a custom model initiates the request. In short: Deploy AI agents with confidence. Your content stays protected. 🛡️ What's coming? The suite brings together the controls admins need to govern both Box AI and third-party agents like Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini through the Box MCP Server. Hi everyone! Welcome to a new series from the Box Education team. Each post walks you through a specific Box feature or workflow with enough detail to actually put it to use. We're starting with something that applies to every Box AI feature you'll ever use: how to write a better prompt. Why prompting mattersBox AI can summarize documents, draft content, and answer questions about your files. But what you get back depends almost entirely on how you ask. A vague prompt gets a vague answer. A specific, well-structured prompt gets something you can actually use. The good news: better prompting is a learnable skill. Once you know the basics, you'll notice the difference immediately. The five building blocks of a good promptEvery effective prompt includes some combination of these five elements: Role — Tell Box AI what perspective to take. Example: "You are a compliance officer reviewing an internal policy." Task — Be clear about what you want it to do. Example: "Summarize," "Extract key

Thanks @Ben Weiner from Box and @Aikokrishna Box for this week’s overview and demo. Also thanks to our guests who joined in the Q&A which is summarized below. Recording SummaryThe Importance of Defining Sensitive Content: @Ben Weiner from Box kicks off the main discussion by highlighting that the first step in any security strategy is to define what constitutes sensitive content for the organization. Ben introduces the 'MVP' concept: understanding the Meaning, Value, and Purpose of a document. This foundational knowledge is crucial for determining the appropriate level of security, from public FAQs to proprietary design documents, and applying the correct access controls, watermarking, and governance policies. Ben explains the typical classification schema (e.g., Public, Internal, Confidential, Restricted) and emphasizes that once content is correctly labeled, the entire security lifecycle, including permissions, watermarking, and governance policies like retention can be aut

Thanks to our guests who joined and participated in the Q&A Slide deck hereAn initial poll revealed that while many attendees had heard of MCP, most had no current plans to use it, highlighting an opportunity for education. Main TopicsWhat is the Box MCP Server?Alvin Han began by defining MCP as the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that defines how external AI clients can connect to data sources. The Box MCP server is an implementation of this standard, allowing users to securely connect their content in Box to AI clients like Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. The connection is handled via OAuth, a secure protocol that ensures the AI agent only has access to
