(picture from my Box Admin Dashboard) Am I correct to assume that I have one (1) more Seat available? If yes, I could use some direction as to how to add a person that I would like to provide access to our files in Box.

Thanks Todd

Hi @TPriest54

Welcome to Box Community, and we’ll gladly discuss the difference between seats and adding managed users.

Seats represent the number of paid user licenses available, while managed users are the actual internal users occupying those seats/licenses under administrative control.

  • Seats refer to the number of paid licenses your organization has purchased for Box accounts. For Starter or Business accounts, seats count both internal (managed) and external users you invite as collaborators. For Business Plus, Enterprise, and higher plans, seats refer only to internal users (managed users), while external collaborators are unlimited and do not consume seats.

  • Managed Users are internal users within your organization whose Box accounts you directly control through the Admin Console. These users have licensed Box accounts that belong to your enterprise, are subject to your organization’s security and compliance policies, and count against your seat/license allocation. Admins can manage their settings, permissions, and run reports on them.

Hope it answers your question, and please let us know if you have clarifications.
