Vice versa timing out

i can't get Vice Versa to compare my local drive to box drive. it ALWAYS times out. i have tried a wide variety of setting changes but it always gives me a "A Device attached to the system is not functioning" error at some point in the compare process. If i select ok it says Error scanning target folder. WHAT DO I DO?? it should NOT time out!!
