Unable to access folder shared with me from another organization

Hi,

I recently had a folder shared with me from another organization. The person said they provided my account access via email and sent me a shared link. When I click the link, I get the following error message:

This shared file or folder link has been removed or is unavailable to you.

Think it's a mistake? No worries: Just email the owner or get in touch with Box support. We're here to help.

What should I do to gain access to this folder?

Thanks!

Hi @anatan3

Welcome to Box Community, and we’d love to help access the shared link.

Note that your shared link error are caused by the following:

  1. Incorrect sharing permissions on the shared file. In other words, whoever created the link did not set the correct access level on the link. If you are not already a collaborator in the folder (or file) the link points to, the link would need to be set to "people in the company" (if that person is also at your company) or "people with the link" (if that person is not part of your company).
  2. The person who created the shared link has since removed it.
  3. You are attempting to access the shared file with a personal Box account instead of the account with which the file was shared.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Verify you are logging into Box with the account to which the file was shared. Typically this will be your company Box account.
  2. If that doesn't resolve the issue, contact the individual who owns the file. Ask them to either to review and revise the file share permissions or to send you the correct link to the file.
  3. If that doesn't resolve the issue, contact your organization's IT admin for help locating the file and fixing the permissions.
  4. If the permissions and location of the file are verified and correct, and you still cannot access it, please contact Box Support for assistance at support.box.com.

For reference, you can visit Shared Links Frequently Asked Questions.

Hope it helps, and please let us know if you have additional questions.

Thank you! I reached out to the sender and they had input the wrong email for sharing privileges.

Every time I try to upload files to the link shared to me by the organization it says it cannot and the link has not expired.

Hi @psquared

Thank you for joining this thread,

Note that with shared link, you can only access and download the shared contents. And if you’re looking upload files, you should be using the file request link instead.

Please let us know if you have clarifications,

Thank you for your assistance. It's not me, but someone else is experiencing an error message (see attached document) and cannot access the invited folder. The invitation email address is correct. What should we do?

The email address of the person experiencing the problem is as follows: <removed personal information> Incidentally, I can access it.

Also, the English translation of the attached document is as follows: "The link to this shared file or folder has been removed or is unavailable. If you believe this problem occurred in error, please contact the owner via email or contact Box support."
