Transition from BoxSync to BoxDrive: searching for files in cloud storage

When BoxSync reaches end of life, I will have to consider whether to migrate to BoxDrive.

I need to be able to search and access my entire cloud backup (currently 565 GB) from the finder (Spotlight) or with various finder tools (Alfred, FindAnyFile, or Raycast). I understand that such searching is not possible with BoxDrive. Is this true? If it is true, what are the alternative ways of performing these searches/accesses using BoxDrive?

Increasingly I need to search not only by file name but by file contents (keywords), sometimes by last modified date, etc. In other words, searching and opening a file by name is not the only search type I need to perform.

If this becomes impossible, I will need to find another syncing solution. Recommendations appreciated on any of the above.

Latest MacOS.

Tx.

Hey here @jipnet , thanks for bringing this up!

I need to be able to search and access my entire cloud backup (currently 565 GB) from the finder (Spotlight) or with various finder tools (Alfred, FindAnyFile, or Raycast).

Box Drive currently does have a way that allows users to search for files on MacOS (see section “Searching on a Mac” here). Searching through your cloud backup should not be an issue.

We are also working on improving how you’d be able to search for content on Box Drive that should enhance the overall search experience.

Increasingly I need to search not only by file name but by file contents (keywords), sometimes by last modified date, etc. In other words, searching and opening a file by name is not the only search type I need to perform.

Duly noted! In our improvements, we definitely are/will take this into account.

Same question, but the link above is not working.

Also, has this question been addressed in the current version of the software?

Increasingly I need to search not only by file name but by file contents (keywords), sometimes by last modified date, etc. In other words, searching and opening a file by name is not the only search type I need to perform.

Thanks.
