Hello,

We recently transferred a large amount of data from Google Drive over to Box. Many of these files were google docs and google sheets. When we try to use or open them now, they open either missing all contents or ask to download an excel version of the file. When opening that excel version, we receive an error message saying: “Excel cannot open the file '___________________' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.”

Please help

Hello,

Following up on this! We urgently need to access these files and I have no other way to reach out to support.

Hi @Sean Smith

Welcome to Box Community! Looks like you couldn’t open the files uploaded in Box, and we’d love to further assist.

As we begin to investigate, could you answer the following?

  • What method was used when the files were uploaded in Box?
  • Is this affecting all files and file types?
  • Is this affecting both your owned and shared files, or just the ones you recently uploaded?
  • Do you have a screenshot of  this error?
  • What browser are you currently using?
    • Please note: Box’s supported browsers and versions can be found in this article.
  • Is this behavior consistent on all browsers, machine and networks?

Additionally, please try the following preliminary troubleshooting steps:

Hope it helps, and we look forward to your reply!

-We used a combination of Globus and downloads/uploads from an external hard drive

-It is affecting just Google Suite file types. Google Sheets and Google Docs are the majority of affected files.

-I am not sure what you mean by owned and shared files. All of them were uploaded within the past week or two.

-I’ve attached screenshots of what it looks like when we try to open as both Google Sheet and Excel.

-We are using Google Chrome and is consistent between multiple users

-I will try these troubleshooting steps now and update here

Thanks
