I want to share some photos with a friend for a funeral. I have Box Business Edition with 3 seats.

When I navigate to a folder with 5 photos, on the right nav under "Sharing" I can click Shared Link. I get a warning that  says:

"Unlimited External Collaboration

External collaborators count towards your seats. Upgrade to unlock unlimited external collaborators. Upgrade now."

The licenses are super expensive, and if I want to share photos with 10 people, do all 10 become "external collaborators", and do i need to pay more? The system is asking for $450 more when I hit Upgrade Now.  All I want to do is share photos with friends in a read only manner.  Seems like a scam right after I bought a 3 license subscription.

Hi Erik,

Welcome to Box Community and glad to assist!

If the your purpose of sharing your Box files is to grant preview access. You can create an open shared link at no additional cost.

With simplified sharing, in just one click you can share access to the file or folder of your choice.  You can also email links to people you invite to collaborate.

Creating a link to share:

  1. In your Box files view, hover your cursor over the row of the file or folder you wish to share.

  2. On the right, click (Create and) Copy Shared Link ().

The Shared Link window opens.  The link automatically copies to your clipboard.

That's it.  You can now paste that link into the app of your choice -- email, messaging, and so on -- to share your content.

Note

By default, shared links are disabled. If you share a link to a file or folder by clicking the Share button, or via the More Options menu ( ) > Share, you must manually enable and then copy the link. Only if you click the link icon () does Box automatically enable the link and copy it to your clipboard.
