Search not working

I’m obviously not the first person to experience the search function not working.

I clearly have a file in my Box account with the word “budget” in the title. When I type “budget” in the search bar, nothing shows up. I’ve tried other search terms that should work and they don’t.

These files have been in my account for days and I haven't touched them and the search is still not working. They are spreadsheets and word docs, not PDFs.

Please help me fix this. The search is completely nonfunctional at this point. This is the main barrier preventing me from recommending Box to my entire team.

Hi @groovyk

Welcome to Box Community, and we’re glad to assist!

Can we start with the range of your search? In order to check,  go to the search bar, click filters and scroll down ‘In Folder” and see if what’s selected: Everywhere in Box, In Trash, In a specific folder.

Make sure you select Everywhere in Box and try again.

Looking forward to hear back from you!

Yes, I assure you there are no filters on. The search is for files of any size, from any time, “Everywhere in Box”. There’s something not working on the back end.

I’ve restarted my computer, cleared browser cache, updated browser to latest version, and tried Box on Firefox and Chrome. Still getting the same thing. “Sorry, we couldn’t find what you’re looking for.”

Interestingly (and I wonder if this could be a clue as to what’s going on), if I search for files with the word “notes” in them, I get the result below. This “waterfall permissions” doc is not even a file that I can visibly see in my folder. And, of course, I do have files with the word “notes” in the file name and they do not show up.

Any ideas?

Could I get someone to look into my individual account?

I’m really hoping to transition my team to Box but I don’t feel willing to do that until this issue is resolved. Thanks

Hi,

I’m really hoping someone can help me figure out the weirdnesses in the search. I’ve started a new trial account and the search DOES work for some things but not for others.

The first screenshot is a list of all the files in the drive. If I search for “notes”, the search pulls up two .docx files with the word “notes” in the title but NOT the .rtf file with “notes” in the title.

If I search for “Nextcloud”, the pdf with NextCloud in the file name does NOT show up.

If I search for “budget”, the two budget .xlsx docs do NOT show up.

But if I search for “test spreadsheet”, that file DOES show up.

What gives?? I can’t discern any patterns in the behavior. Not sure if the file type has anything to do with it. And the files have been there for hours.
