For Box Relay, there is a Scheduled Event trigger which can be parametrized into days or weeks. But there is no way to specify the hour.

At what hour does any scheduled event run?

Any update on this one? I'm curious too. Does it occur at the time of day it was activated or what?

Any update on this one, or how it works in Box Automate?

👋 Hi @Martin, welcome to the Box Community! I’d be happy to assist.

1. Regarding execution hour for scheduled event triggers in Box Relay

In Box Relay, when you configure a Scheduled Event trigger, you can specify a start date and a repeat frequency (such as daily, weekly, monthly, or annually), but you cannot specify a start time or hour.

  • How the execution time is determined: Scheduled workflows run based on the Relay builder’s local time zone at the time of the workflow’s creation.
  • First execution: If you select the current date as the start date, the workflow will run immediately upon activation. Subsequent runs will execute on the scheduled cadence relative to that creation/activation time window.

2. How scheduled triggers work in Box Automate

Box Automate is Box’s next-generation workflow automation platform designed to replace Box Relay. It introduces several key enhancements for scheduling and workflow orchestration:

  • Modern visual builder: Unlike the linear, sequential list builder in Box Relay, Box Automate uses a drag-and-drop visual builder in a flowchart format. This allows you to build complex, multi-path workflows with conditional branching (synchronous, conditional, and parallel paths).
  • Advanced logic and looping: Box Automate supports “for each” loops to iterate over lists of users or files, as well as “loop back” steps that can send the flow back to a previous point in the workflow (with a configurable maximum loop count).
  • AI and Agentic capabilities: It natively incorporates AI-powered agentic capabilities, allowing you to route tasks dynamically between humans, systems, and AI agents (such as Box Agent and Extract Agent outcomes).
  • Expanded triggers and variables: It features an advanced variables framework (trigger, outcome, and custom variables) and adds a Metadata Event Trigger that enhances metadata-based triggering with cascading capabilities across entire folder hierarchies.

Thank you for the answer @Jey Bueno Box. Can I safely assume that the execution time is treated the same in Box Automate?

Therefore, if I want one workflow to always run first, I need to create it earlier in day than the existing workflows to ensure this? Subsequently, if I change anything in the workflow and Save the changes, and Activate the updated workflow, does that change the runtime, or does the original runtime stay?

Thank you :)
