Is there a way to require users to input an email address before accessing a box directory? We are sharing a folder and would like to understand which emails are accessing this folder, and how often. Looking at the current security options, it doesn’t seem to be possible, does anyone know a way to set this up? We are using a Box Enterprise account.

Hi @EmersonGarnett

Welcome to Box Community, and we’re happy to discuss more on secured content sharing!

Box does not offer a direct feature to require users to input an email address before accessing a shared folder via a shared link. However, there are some relevant points and possible approaches:

  1. Shared Links Access Controls and Login Requirement: You can restrict access to shared links so that only “People in your company” (defined by email domain or Box Enterprise ID) or “People in this folder” (invited collaborators) can access the content. This requires users to be logged into their Box accounts, which means you can track which managed users accessed the folder. Additionally, users must log in, so their activity can be tracked by user account. Please see this article for more details.

  2. Granting folder/file access through Collaboration invite. Using this process, collaborators are required to login to the Box website to access your shared contents.

  3. Notifications and Reporting: Admins can monitor user activities such as file downloads and collaborations through reports and notifications, but these rely on users being authenticated Box users. Here’s the specific report you can run.

Hope it answers your question, and please let us know if you have clarifications.

Thanks for posting!
