Request to delete free personal account (cannot login due to error)

Hello Box Support Team,

I am unable to log in to my free personal Box account due to a Google account association issue. I would like to request either (a) removal of the Google account association so I can log in, or (b) complete deletion of the Box account.

## Situation

- Password reset via https://app.box.com/reset completes successfully and I receive the reset email.
- However, when I attempt to log in (via Google sign-in), I receive the following error:

  "We found an issue with your account
  The Box account <r***@***.com> is already linked to another Google account.
  Log in to <r***@***.com> and remove the association to continue."

- The error tells me to log in to my account to remove the association, but I cannot log in in the first place — this is a circular block.
- Email/password login is also blocked: entering my email address on the Box login page redirects me to the same error without showing a password field.
- I am also unable to use the standard support form at https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/requests/new because it requires authentication with the same Box account.
- I was able to sign in to Box Community separately, which is why I am posting here.

## Request

Could you please open a support ticket and either:
1. Remove the Google account association on my Box account so I can log in and delete it myself, or
2. Proceed with complete deletion of my free personal Box account on your side.

I will share the exact registered email address and the full error message through the support case once it is created (to avoid posting personal information publicly).

- Account type: Free / Individual
- Account status: Locked out due to Google account mismatch

Welcome to Box Community, and we’ll help to resolve your login conflict with Google Sign In. 

 

Just to so you’re aware, Box account deletion should be initiated by the account holder. In this case, you should be able to login successfully in order to delete your Box account. 

 

With your Google Sign in error, please setup your Box password and see if that would resolve the issue

  1. Visit https://app.box.com/reset and enter the email address associated with your Box account.
  2. Check your email, you will receive an email with a link to reset your password.
  • Password reset links sent via email expire 3 hours after they are sent. If you need a new link after your current one has expired, visit https://app.box.com/reset to have another link emailed to you.
  • If you do not receive an email from Box for this password reset, check to see if your Box account is associated with that specific email address or another email address.
  • Also, check your spam folder in your email client for this email.

同じメールアドレスを使って新しいアカウントを作成することは可能でしょうか?
Googleアカウントでログインしたのですが、パスワードを設定しようとするとエラーが出てしまい困っています。
他のフォーラムでも同じエラーが発生している人がいるようです。
この問題を解決するために、Googleアカウントではなく「新規登録」をクリックして新しいアカウントを作成したいと考えています。

👋 Hi ​@Chelsea.K, welcome to the Box Community! I’ve moved your post to this thread so you can find the relevant guidance on the Google sign‑in issue.


An email address can only be associated with one Box account. If an account tied to that email was previously canceled, it remains in our system for 120 days before being fully deleted. We are unable to expedite this process. During that period, the same email cannot be used to create a new account.


To move forward, you can create a Box password here: https://app.box.com/reset. You can also refer to ​@Rona Box’s guide above for additional details.


Once you’re logged in, follow these steps to remove Google authentication from your Box account:

  • Click your Profile avatar at the upper‑right corner (usually your initials)
  • Go to Account Settings
  • Click the Integrations tab
  • Reset the Google integration to remove “Sign in with Google”


Alternatively, you can revoke Box access directly from your Google account:

  • Log in to your Google Account Security page
  • Under third‑party apps, select Box
  • Click Remove Access to disable Google sign‑in


After completing these steps, you’ll be able to log in using your email address and the new password you created.

Thank you for your response and for moving the thread.
I tried the method you suggested and was able to remove Google Authentication and log in using my email address. Thank you!

(However, even after resetting my password, the “Account Settings” screen still showed that no password was set.
Since the data shared by my business partner was alerting me to “change to a stronger password,” I followed the instructions and changed my password again, and everything is now correct.
My issue has already been resolved, but I’m posting this here so it can serve as a reference for other users.)
