Hi

I know that it now seems possible to configure the Box sync folder when setting up a new install so if I have an existing install and want to change the location, will the following work:

  1. Logout out of Box Drive, exit the app and uninstall the app
  2. Move the files from C:\Users\{myuser}\Box (just as a backup)
  3. Reinstall the app and when configuring set the new location  e.g. D:\MAINSTORAGE\MYUSERFOLDER
  4. Allow the new install to sync files across from the Cloud
  5. Once synched and checked against the backup, delete the backup

Thanks in anticipation

Hi there,

Welcome to the Box Community!

Can you confirm, are you using Box Drive or Box Sync? These are two different Box desktop applications, and currently the steps you listed can work for Box Sync app.

This workflow can work if you are modifying location of the Box Sync folder to another location as stated in this article: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043696674-Modifying-the-Location-of-the-Box-Sync-Folder

If you have any questions, please let me know and I will do my best to help you!

Best,

Hi France

I am using the Box Drive app. So it seems that I should be using https://app.box.com/services/browse/official/box_sync_for_windows

So step 3 in my sequence would be modified to give

  1. Logout out of Box Drive, exit the app and uninstall the app
  2. Move the files from C:\Users\{myuser}\Box (just as a backup)
  3. Install Box Sync instead of Box Drive and when configuring set the new location  e.g. D:\MAINSTORAGE\MYUSERFOLDER
  4. Allow the new install to sync files across from the Cloud
  5. Once synched and checked against the backup, delete the backup

Thanks again
Kevin

P.S. what are the pros / cons of Box Drive vs Box Sync? Is one of them the latest recommended version?
