I am a paid subscriber. I need to create a Shared Link with password protection. This support article says I should be able to do it, but the Password Protect option in Link Settings is grayed out and inaccessible. HELP! What’s my solution here??
I know it’s Monday morning after a holiday weekend. And I know that I posted my initial question on Sunday of a holiday weekend. But my question has not even been posted on the community forum.
My work does not stop because it was a holiday. Because I cannot get any support from Box -- and I spent hours searching for answers -- I am using a different cloud storage service for this project.
This is not my preferred solution, but it is the only one available to me because of the lack of support resources.
By the way, it’s insane that THIS post gets put up immediately, but my plea for help was sent to await moderator approval, which is has still not gotten. Just another example of poor support.
Things have gotten more screwed up . . . I was notified by email that “Rona Box” responded to my message. (And it appears my two separate postings have been combined here.) When I clicked on View Reply, I was taken to a Page Not Found. Plus, there is no reply from Rona in this thread.
Rona, I appreciate your response, but this forum feels like it’s as much of a mess as my recent experience.
To update the original post:
- Password-protected shared links are available to all paid Box User accounts. All passwords for open shared links require at least eight characters, and should contain at least one uppercase letter, number, or special character.

Yet I cannot create a password-protected shared link because the password option is grayed out.
Hi
Welcome to Box Community, and we’re sorry to hear about your experience. Please let us rectify that.
While it’s true that you can create a password-protected shared link, there are couple of things you need to check as well:
Please make sure that the shared link is set to “People with the link” meanwhile if you’re a collaborator see if you’re either a co-owner, or editor.
In addition to this,
-
Folder Content Limitations: If applying a password to a shared link to a folder, some content like Box Notes may become inaccessible, which might affect availability.
-
Browser or UI Issues: Try clearing browser cache or using a different browser to rule out interface glitches.
Hope it works, and we hope to get this sorted out very soon!
Thank you,

I tried to recreate it again just now and ran into the same problem. And I’ve tried this from two different computers and cleared my cache before my latest attempt.
As noted previously, I needed a solution quickly, and so moved my files to a different cloud provider where I got this done seamlessly. But I would like to figure out why it’s not working here.

P.S. Rona’s post has now appeared in this forum, but her original post remains AWOL and my post explaining the “Page Not Found” issue associated with her original post has disappeared. I appreciate the moderators doing their thing, but combining posts and deleting posts without any transparency seems like a wrong-headed approach.
