Question

Open in Excel for Web goes blank after opening

I open an excel doc on Box in web/online version, the doc opens new browser tab, opens for a split second then goes blank.

Tried clearing cache, logging out then back in - neither worked.

Only thing that works is incognito mode which suggests cache issue but not sure why it’s happening.

Also, it happens randomly - will just suddenly go blank and I have to use incognito mode for a few days.

TIA!

Hi @dvvvvvvvvv

Welcome to Box Community, and we’re here to help with your blank screen issue while opening excel files!

Aside from clearing your cache and cookies, and logging out of your Box account. Please try the following troubleshooting steps in resolving your blank screen issue:

  1. Make sure your browser’s up to date.
  2. If you get a blank screen when opening Excel file in Box, the culprit can be your third-party cookies being blocked in your browser. This prevents Box from communicating with Microsoft servers to load your file.

How to fix in Google Chrome:

  1. Click the three dots (menu) in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy and security > Third-party cookies (or Site settings > Cookies and site data).
  3. Allow third-party cookies, or add [*.]box.com and [*.]live.com (for Excel Online) to your Allowed exception list.

Tip: Using Incognito mode often bypasses this issue because it starts with a clean session and different cookie rules.

Hope it helps! Let us know should the issue persists.
