Subject:

Older install files of box drive needed for updating to 2.25.306 from 2.24.208 at Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

box drive for Windows wants to update to 2.25.306 from 2.24.208 and fails with an error message

> Box Drive konnte nicht auf Version 2.25.306 aktualisieren.
> Bitte versuchen Sie, die Aktualisierung erneut durchzuführen, oder melden Sie

If trying to manually uninstall the version 2.24.208, a similar error appears.

After inspecting the local drive it's pretty clear that the box-2.24.208.msi version does not exist locally.

* OS version Windows 10 64-bit

* existing box drive version  2.24.208 64-bit

* version to be installed 2.25.306 64-bit

* log files have been sent be the installation process at Feb/15/2022 at 8.15 AM CET.

IMHO, I need an earlier version of box drive for Windows 64-bit in order to complete the update process.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

I am currently having the same issue. Unable to uninstall because I don't have the old Uninstaller version and also failing to update. It is caught in a loop I can't get out of.

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the Box Community, I'm happy to help!

Can you follow the steps in this article to manually reset your Box Drive?

Hi France,

thanks for your answer and your recommendations. Unfortunately, it is not possible to complete the steps from https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043697494-Using-Box-Drive-Basics It stops at step 2 "Uninstall the application in the Control Pane".

The system gives the message that it can not find the package Box.2.24.208.msi in the path c:\ProgramData\Box\Box\Installer.

Have a nice day

I am also having this problem. It seems that the solution should be simple. All we need is the Box.2.24.208.msi installer file to be able to uninstall the previous version. Once it is un-installed, I would be able to install the current version.

I pretty agree with Isabelle. In addition, if the Box.2.24.208.msi installer file is present, it seems that the updater will first uninstall the previous version and install the actual version.

I was able to fix the problem! At my university they gave me this site to download an uninstaller program. I used to uninstall whatever version of Box was left on my computer despite not having the Box.2.24.208.msi installer file. I then was able to reinstall Box from the beginning and everything is good now.

1001 thx, Isabelle

This is the process in step by step manner.

  1. Close box drive application
  2. Save the troubleshooter program from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d
  3. Start the troubleshooter, which needs administrative privileges
  4. Select whether to install or remove an application
  5. Select the application that comes into question, here Box
  6. Maybe one further step is necessary
  7. Troubleshooter removes previous version of Box drive
  8. Download most recent version of Box drive
  9. Reconfigure your Box drive and you are done.
