This literally makes me want to quit Box and I just signed up - anything that is that complicated for someone who just created an account is virtually unusable.  I searched google, box forums, the box help section but there is nothing that seems to offer any remote suggestion on how to resolve this.

I uploaded ONE file - I need to share this file with an external person who has no Box account and will not ever sign up for a Box account.  I have the file, I clicked on share → create link.  Now I have a link, and I hit link properties - it appears to only allow me to enter an email address and invite people as a viewer or an editor.  There is no setting that allows me to create a link that I can copy, and paste into an email, and send to somebody.   I see several places where an option “anyone with the link” can view the file, but that setting does not appear anywhere in the link options.

I want to just:

  1.  create a link that can be sent in an email to someone outside of Box without sending a link through Box - I just want a link I can copy and paste into an email
  2.  set a link expiration so the link to the file expires at a certain time

The only clue I could find is under the link - when I click on link properties - I want to find the “allow anyone with the link to view the file”

“Certain settings may not be available for this item due to permissions.”
