Moving from open folder to closed folder structure

I'm new box admin who was recently tasks with making changes to our current folder structure, which is open folder taxonomy, to closed folder taxonomy. While the information in the post is helpful I don't know if it actually answers the question asked. I would like to know what the possible impact will be on current access to anything in the root folder for all my users. I'm looking to turn this on soon and don't want to create more work for myself. Any help is appreciated.
