Moving box client folder to another attached drive

I do want to clarify that Box Drive currently does not support changing where it stores its app data or cached files, and this article is to help resolve issues around file-to-file linking via absolute paths as seen in many popular apps such as Excel, Word, InDesign, and so on. 

Logging out of Box drive can help clear up hard disk spaces on your devices as it completely removes all traces of your Drive usage from your machine and enables you to log in again as a new user. Also, when you log out, your Box Drive session ends and the login screen displays. In addition, logging out of Box Drive deletes all of the downloaded content you had marked for offline availability. It also returns to an online-only state all of the content you have marked for offline availability. You will have to repeat the process of marking folders for offline availability. Yes, that is the article I reference.  So my challenge is not in any app linkage or anything, It's simply that my C drive is running out of space with box caching to my c:/users area.  I wish to move that cache to my D drive.  Can I move it all and then place a link in the /users area to the new location on D?  Or should I in fact edit the Windows registry like the article suggests.

Although the article I shared says you can configure Box Drive's location, you are only moving the location of the Box Drive mount point or the directory.

On the "Important" note on the article, it specifically mentions this limitation:

• Customizing the Box Drive folder does not change where Box Drive stores its app data or cached files. So customizing the folder will not save disk space if you relocate the folder to another drive.

The cache data and the install are still going to be on C:\ but the directory can be moved to help resolve issues around file-to-file linking via absolute paths as seen in many popular apps such as Excel, Word, InDesign, and so on.

Yes, I'm thinking I understand what you are saying.  Please convey up the Box channels how much it is desired to pick the location of the box data elements.  i know of at least one other similar solution that has always permitted this.  Appreciate your very timely responses too!  I'm trying to squeeze out enough space on my C: drive knowing that this will only get worse the more we load into Box.
