Hi,

I recently had problems with the transition from Box Sync to Box Drive, this meant that 514 files were not synced in the cloud.

when Box Drive updated and uninstalled Box Sync, those files were added to an ‘Archived - Box Sync’ folder and therefore not synced.

not that I have moved that folder into the synced folder I have duplicate folders and files.  I want to merge them but how do i do this while deleting the oldest duplicate version?

Thank in advance for nay help

Hi @PauSt

Welcome to Box Community, and we’ll assist in migrating your unsynced folders!

Reminder that when you later moved that archived content back into a synced Box Drive location that already had the cloud copies, Box treated those as new local items and created duplicates rather than reconnecting them.

Here are the things you need to consider in migrating your contents from Box Sync archived folder:

  1. Copy the affected duplicate folders to a non-Box location before deleting anything.

  2. Look for duplicate folders/files with:

    • your email appended to the name, or
    • numbered/conflict-style names.
  3. For each duplicate pair/set:

    • compare modified dates
    • check version history on Box where available
    • open both copies if needed
    • keep the one with the newer content, not just the newer-looking name
  4. If both duplicate folders contain useful files:

    • choose one folder as the keeper
    • move any missing/newer files from the older duplicate into it
    • confirm the keeper folder now contains everything
    • only then delete the older duplicate folder
  5. Your rule of deleting the oldest duplicate is fine only after you confirm it does not contain anything unique.

  6. Merge a few duplicates at a time and let Box Drive fully sync before continuing.

Hope it helps! Let us know in the Community if you need further assistance.
