we have been getting this error on 3 accounts over the last 2 months.

its every word, or excel document we try and open from the box.com website to our local Word or Excel app.

cleaned and reset Chrome to defaults.

added box.com to the safe list in Chrome

reinstalled Box Tools

if we download the file and open in Word or Excel we do not get the error.

all same result, does anyone have direction to resolve this issue. I have screen shots of the error messages as well.

Hi Jamie,

Welcome to the Box Community, I'm happy to help!

We have seen this happen to one of users who was running an old version of MS application.

Can you make sure to update your MS apps to the latest version. Once that is done you have to quit all of the Microsoft applications before you open a file otherwise it results in the error. It will then work going forward.

Let us know how it goes and if you have questions!

All the Best,

Did a little home work on this.

found her version 16.0.15629.20156 on this site https://www.office365versions.com/ under Current Channel -

looked up her version and 2209 2022 Sep 26 Current Channel - this is the latest and greatest.

I will try a full uninstall reinstall to see if that helps.

Thank you for the reply.

Same issue and also have the current version of office. Closed all office programs before retrying.

What worked for me was going into Word, selecting Open then add a Place and then Box. Performing all the screen prompts.

Thanks Jor Little, it was that easy

click on Word, then go to OPEN its a option on the left

once you select OPEN you will see a spot under Other Locations

select Add a Place

here you should see Box.com and all you have to do is sign into your account.

Issue resolved.

Thanks

What you describe works for us - until we quit and restart an Office app (Mac). Upon restart, the Box storage provision is gone. Which is greatly interfering with our workflow, which involves almost exclusively streaming content from Box to the MS apps (via Box Tools, ostensibly, but I’m wondering what Box Tools, sometimes confusingly referred to as Box Edit, is even for).

Our users have to sign in all over again and grant permissions each time after quitting an Office app on the desktop, otherwise streaming fails.
