Make a file available to edit online only

Hi Andrew,

Box Edit enables users to edit files on Box using the native applications installed on their computer. Admins can disable this add-on feature for their account holders from the Box Admin console. This will disable the desktop edit option in Box.

Thank you for that reply.  This does sound very useful.  However, I work for a very large organization and we are but a very small team in that organization.  I do not have access to the Box Admin Console or to the admins for our organization and I don't think that the admins would make an organizational decision based on our teams needs.  Is there an alternative solution that we could use at the folder or file level that would resolve the situation?

I don't think this is configurable at the folder level, but another solution is to have users kill the Box Edit process manually. This can be done by right clicking the Box Edit icon located on the tray bar (bottom right hand side of the screen) and select "Quit".

Thanks again for the quick reply.  I do understand your suggestion.  However, as stated in the original question, I don't think suggesting to individual users how to manage their own workstation or box behavior would be a solution to this problem.  Inevitably, someone will forget or just not comply.  I am looking for a way to have box manage how users can or cannot edit files such that a user cannot upload a file and overwrite edits made to the file while they had it on their local copy.

I would like this feature as well. Not for ALL files, but just for a specific individual file. Based on this thread, I'm going to assume that feature does not exist.
