Is there a way to automatically lock files upon open. We are having lots of issues with multiple versions of documents. I understand if logged in online it will ask if you want to lock but when you open document on your desktop, I don't want to have to take extra steps every time to lock a file. Is there a setting that I can always lock upon open and unlock upon close. I am alright with two people not being in same document at same time.

You should deploy the registry entry mentioned on this page below. I don't know why this was not suggested by Aira from Box as it's literally exactly what you want. Just don't enable MS Office Co-Authoring as once this is enabled with Box, this registry key is no longer being honored from Box Drive (but Box fails to mention this anywhere)...
