Hello,
Is there any linux based Box App? I would like to sync my NAS with Box drive.
Hi Ali,
Welcome to the Box Community!
Box Desktop apps currently do not support linux based systems. If you would like to access Box.com from this OS, you can try using a web browser.
Best,
It would be awesome if there was a Box App for Linux. This would help a lot of users.
Currently best solution is having NAS (sync with Box). It is also funny that NASs are linux based.
@Ali Does your NAS software have a client for Box? Could you supply some information? - Thanks.
I am using DAV, but NAS is not as good as the normal Windows client, because it requires a sync for every action (cd, ls, touch, etc.)
see this website for installing: https://www.xmodulo.com/how-to-mount-box-com-cloud-storage-on-linux.html
@secretarybaysieshed, I have QNAP(NAS) and it has Hybrid Backup Sync App. (not client app), actually it is just cloud sync app(real-time, two way) . But I can use it as network drive easily. There are some limitations about file sizes and symbols in file/folder names(especially mac/apple based folder structure). For now I am happy to use like that. It also doesn't take resources of my humble computer (such as Disk, LAN, RAM, Processor...)
This is just not OK. There needs to be a Linux solution for this basic product. This might be a deal breaker.
They stopped "supporting" WebDAV which was already not an ideal solution, but workable. Now we have nothing as Linux users.
And FYI, WebDAV is now completely broken, so access from Linux is browser-only
This just became a huge problem for us. We'll have to migrate to OneDrive.
Well, this is a reason for me to recommend people use Dropbox or literally anything else instead. Dropbox is decent enough to actually support Linux. This is really frustrating.

I bet your own developers, who are likely to use Linux, find it to be frustrating, too!
I would switch from Dropbox to Box if they supported Linux....Dropbox is falling off in quality.
It is the end of 2024 and they don't support Linux, even though big corporations have it for their employees to work, knowing that a sizable number of computer scientists use linux. It's a shame!
It is time for a Linux Client... I need to make a decision 2025 to switch to other cloud that support Linux. Its not that difficult
Hi
I finally ditched Windows after more than 25 years of hatred, and I am a happy Linux user, and I am faced with this bitter truth that Box does not have a Linux client, nor even a workaround. Are there any product managers and developers here listening to our requests? I really like Box and I do not want to switch to anything else, I know I can access from the browser, but a client is much much much appreciated.
Thanks
I agree 100%. I also recently ditched Windows after 30 years and have gone to Linux. I had it with the sheer amount of data that Windows sends to Microsoft behind the scenes. I had heard about this but only noticed it when I installed a private DNS server and could watch all the outbound connections that I was not making myself, insane!
I would be AWESOME if BOX supported Linux!! Please Developers take Notice!
Thx
