I Want the Close/X Button Back on a File

Please put the X/Close button back. I do not like having to hit the back button and now that you’ve changed the interface my productivity is going to take a nose dive until I can navigate what has now erased 4 years of knowing exactly where things are and not having to think about where I need to go to do what or how to get to what!

I agree.  I’ve used Box for nearly 11 years and this is the worst “improvement” made.  It has cut down on my efficency because I’m looking in the top right corner for the X/Close button and it’s not there so I have to move my eyes and mouse/cursor over to the left hand side of the screen for the back button.

Please re-install the Close button!!

Hi @Tamera and @DMullen

Welcome to Box Community, and thank you both for engaging into this community thread, we’re glad to assist!

To give us more context of the issue, in which Box function does the 'x" button has disappeared?

Looking forward to hear back from you!

Starting to see the same issue pop up around the floor, any luck getting the X/close button back?

@Rona Box

I’m specifically talking about the button to close a file and go back to where you were. Now there is a back button you have to use instead and it’s in a place opposite where the close/X button used to be.  It’s very frustrating. And like @DMullen said, making productivity go down because what used to be second nature is now something you have to think about. When you process a lot of invoices (I’m in Accounts Payable) like I do, it can make a significant dent in the day even if it’s only a few seconds at at time.

I also do no like that it reorganizes main root folders whenever someone else uses it. My coworkers and I are in different folders at the same time and when I’m working on a large amount of invoices that all get moved to different folders, which is why I always had them sorted alphabetically. They were always in the same place at all times. Now, when a coworker goes different folders, whatever folder they were in last now goes to the top, And if they’ve been in several folders in the time I’ve been working on one document the order I have my view set to is now all mixed up. Yes, I could hit the name button, but hitting that costs time. I am spending more time navigating in Box now than I did before this update and its’ been very frustrating. I could see where having the last folder a user was in at the top could be useful. But it’s not useful when you have several users all working in different folders at the same time. Please Please Please put these two things back the way they were. Oh, while I’m ranting, one other thing that is bugging me is once I move a document, it used to say where the document was moved to. That is gone now. I used that to make sure I moved something to the correct location. Now I have to spend time double checking it went where I intended it.

Its very difficult navigating without the X. Please undo this “upgrade” as it really slows me down. The missing “X” is in the attached image - just to the right of the blue “share” button.

I’m also finding that when moving files, the dialogue box is smaller, and no longer fits most folder names and so instead of clicking one thing, you now have to click 3 to move things.

The 'X' (close document) function needs to be reinstated immediately. Removing this feature has disrupted a key workflow and broken years of established muscle memory for your long-term users. This update adds unnecessary friction to a basic navigation task. Please consider reverting this or providing a toggle for the legacy layout.

I want to echo what Tamera and others have posted, @Rona Box . The time-suck that is having to press the back button, but having to remember which one: the Box Online one or the Browser back button, as they’re vertical to each other,  to exit out of the file I am looking at, has made this “update” change frustrating. Not to mention when previewing a file, the arrow that allows the right side bar to be minimalized is smaller, the icons now seem cartoon-y or as if someone typed up changes they wanted into AI and then didn’t bother doing a beta test with real users. We were already annoyed with the search updates (I.E. having to choose This Folder or Everywhere) and now this. These updates are time-wasters for users.  Please listen to those who actually use Box Online.
