Hi,

When in Box and opening a PDF in Box I typically right-click on the file, then select “Open With” followed by “Open with Adobe Acrobat” and when I do the following notification pops up:

______________________________________________________________________

Launching Application

<pdf> is opening in Adobe Acrobat. Saving your file will save changes directly back to
Box.

Lock file to prevent others from editing it

______________________________________________________________________

Is there any way to change my settings so this doesn’t populate every time I open a PDF?
I have to select “Close” each individual time after opening before I can continue navigating through folders/files and it makes my work far less efficient.

Thanks!

👋 Hi @Micah Miller, welcome to the Box Community! Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your concern regarding the “Launching application” window that appears when opening a file.

Currently, this behavior is part of the system’s design. The pop-up is intended to inform Box users that a file is being opened via an external application. We understand that this may not be ideal in all situations, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. At this time, there is no option to disable this notification.

Just to clarify, this message also appears when launching tools such as Box Edit or other external applications like Microsoft PowerPoint.

As an alternative, you might consider opening the file via the web interface. In this case, although it will open in a new browser tab (e.g., for Adobe Acrobat), the external application pop-up will not appear.

Regarding the functionality you mentioned, we encourage you to share your suggestion on Box Pulse. Our Product team actively reviews user feedback for potential enhancements, and your input would be highly valued.

Thank you again, and we hope you have a wonderful day! 😊
