How to change managed users to external users?

I have coworkers that really only use box to view/download content.

I like to keep them as external users.

But when I share folder with them, I noticed that some of them become managed and some became external users.  I would like to be able to control that.

1) How do I change a managed user to an external user

2) When sharing content to someone with same email domain, how do I control that they become external users? (If I need them to be managed users, I can invite later)
