Hi @faye

Welcome to Box Community, and we will help locate the missing folder.

Let’s go and track your folder activity, particularly the folder that disappeared.

To run the report:

  1. Log in to Box.com and go to Admin Console> Reports> Create report> User Activity.
  2. Set the date range for this report and in Action Types select File Management and set the filters: Moved to trash, Moved and Renamed.
  3. Lastly, click run so you’ll get a copy via CSV.

In the meantime, is the missing folder your own or shared folder? If it’s the latter, please reach out to the owner and report this incident.

Remember that if the folder has been deleted, only the owner and the collaborator who deleted the folder could restore them from their trash.

To search through your Trash folder:

  1. Navigate to your Trash folder.
  2. Toward the top, click the Search Files and Folders
  3. In the box that displays, enter any search parameters.
  4. Check Only search inside of “Trash.”
  5. Press Enter.

To sort and filter all items within the trash folder:

You can filter content by items you own, or by items you’ve deleted.  To do this, directly beneath the folder label (Trash), click the Items I Own (or Items I Deleted) down arrow.  Then click the option you want.

  • The Items I deleted filter displays all items you have deleted, regardless of who created or owns the item.
  • The Items I own filter displays all deleted items you own, regardless of who deleted the item.

Tip

Filtering by Items I Own is helpful when trying to track down content that may have been deleted by a collaborator in a folder you own.

Hope it helps, and please let us know how it goes.

Hi,

My folder has also disappeared, and I cannot see it in Trash. I also do not see the Admin Console button. Could you please restore my folder with all its files? This folder has years of research results.

Best,

Juhi

Hi @jchaudhari, thank you for joining this thread!

Let me help with your missing folder.  Have you searched and filtered your trash?

  • You could search via the missing folder’s name. In order to do so, go to your Trash and use the search bar.
  • Alternately, you could filter the deleted folders if it’s your own folder choose Items I Own.”

Note: Personal users doesn’t have access to Admin Console this is a feature exclusively available for Business accounts and above.

Hope it helps!

Thank you for your prompt response. There are currently no files in my Trash at all. Are there other ways to find these files?

Best,

Juhi

Hello,

I am still facing this problem. Could you please look into it? I think there is a 14-day window before the files are purged from Trash so I want to get attention to this issue ASAP. Is there a way to open a ticket?

Best,

Juhi

All of our folders have been deleted and they are not in our ‘trash’. Can you restore them?

I am a bookkeeper for a company that uses BOX.  Yesterday, I went into BOX to see if any new reports had been uploaded.  Not only were there no reports uploaded, but all the reports that had been in there since around June are gone.  One of our former employees, that was I guess an admin with BOX, received an email that BOX was having an issue with the previewing and/or downloading of files.  I’m just wondering if this issue has been fixed or what is happening because I still can’t access the files.

Hi @amuhama

Welcome to Box Community! We moved your post to this related topic, please check out the responses that you deem helpful and please join our discussion too!

Upon review, it’s a shared folder that was missing and sharing has been disabled for the owner making it inaccessible not just yourself but to all collaborators. Kindly reach out to the owner so they could settle this and activate sharing.

Hope it helps! Let us know if you have questions.

There was no indication that you have owned folders. Meanwhile, it appears that you have a shared folder and please reach out to the owner.

Thanks for posting, and please let us know if you have questions.

I logged into my Box account today and discovered that a large number of files stored for years are missing, both folders and single files.

This appears to be a potential data loss issue. I have already checked Trash, filters, and account settings. The approx last time the files were confirmed present was at the beginning of this month.

Could you please:

  • Investigate any recent deletions or sync activity
  • Confirm whether files can be restored from backups or version history
  • Escalate this issue urgently

This data is extremely important, so I would appreciate immediate assistance.

Is anyone having trouble with box today? A majority of our folders and files are missing, though they were there on Friday. They are not in trash. I think box is glitching.
