File Explorer Customizations (File Name Column Width)

Good afternoon,

Our client wants us to fix an issue where File Explorer customizations are not being respected when viewing files in the Box Drive path on the workstation.

Specifically the file name column is not wide enough to display the full name of files/folders in the path, but this issue is not present outside of the Box Drive environment.

    I am experiencing the same problem and it is very frustrating. The problem independently persists within file explorer and when file explorer opens within a program (e.g., opening a document in Microsoft Word). The latter is especially frustrating because it reverts back to the default column width every single time.

    Box’s Drive ignores “File Explorer > ... > Options > View > Apply to Folders” customization where other drives like pCloud do not.

    I am having the same issue. Has anyone found a workaround or fix?

    Unfortunately, this is a known limitation with Box Drive on Windows with how we have integrated with Windows File Explorer.

    Thanks for confirming this. Is Box working on a workaround for this issue? It greatly impacts productivity when you have to adjust the columns every time you switch folders because the file names are cut off.

    Unfortunately, this is a known limitation with Box Drive on Windows with how we have integrated with Windows File Explorer.

    This behavior is a result of limitations with File Explorer; we’d need some enhancements from the OS in order to make persistent column sizing doable. 

    We can explore potential workarounds that might help alleviate the issue; any chance you could expand at all about your workflow(s) that makes the file names being fully visible crucial?
