Is there a best way to migrate a large data footprint from Google Drive to Box without resorting to Shuttle? I understand Shuttle is a recommended method but its not possible with the account I am working with.

Currently, Box Shuttle would be your best option to upload your contents to Box in a large scale. However, if it's not possible in your end. You may consider using FTP, which could also help you with bulk uploads.
