I have a file from a trusted source that is being flagged as malware. It is not malware but I cannot access it. How do I unflag a false positive?

Hi @alexmalahoff

Welcome to Box Community, and we’re glad to assist!

If a trusted file was incorrectly flagged as malware, you can restore access by marking the file as safe in the malicious content alert. According to Malicious-Content-Detection-Rule, doing that removes active download restrictions and removes the malware warning banner, so the file can be accessed again. The same guidance says a comment is required when overriding the verdict.

Here are the steps to mark the file as safe:

  • Open the malware-related alert for the file.
  • Review the alert details and verify it is a false positive.
  • Mark the file as safe to remove the restriction.
  • Add the required comment when overriding the verdict.

If you need additional help, please don’t hesitate to reply back.
