When using a public link to share a file, Box.com generates a URL with '/s/' in it, and an expiration date can be set for the link. However, once the link expires, even the file owner may have difficulty recalling the original file. Is there a way to recover the original link from the expired address? I know we cannot generate the same link again, but I want to access the original file myself as an owner.

I agree this would be a great improvement to have.

Hi there,

Welcome to Box Community and glad to help with your shared links query!

As for expired shared links, they are permanently off of our database and we can no longer collect or retrieve the same shared link URL in expense of locating the file/folder once attached to it.

Hope it answers your question,

Happy Weekend!

Wait, so you as the admin of a box folder/file, if I create a shareable link and mark it with an expire date, when it expires the files the shared link is for get deleted themselves? Because that makes zero sense. isn’t it just the link itself that expires?

Also, I can’t create share links with expiration dates anymore How do I fix that? When I go to create a shareable link, it shows the option to toggle on the expiration date, but it’s like grayed out and won’t let me toggle it on.
