I tried to change the box sync location from C:\Users\XXX\Box to another path on the same drive.

After restarting BoxDrive the sync location is still the same.

How can I change the location?

Hi @snagypeter

Welcome to Box Community, and we’ll help you modify your Box Sync’s folder location!

Note: This feature is only available for Box Sync application, not with Box Drive.

First, uninstall your Box Sync application and reinstall it.

When you first log into Box Sync (the first time after installing Box Sync or when you log in as a different user) you have the option to customize the location of the "Box Sync" folder where Box Sync will store your synced content.

If you decide to change your folder settings, follow this procedure:

  1. Click the Customize Folder Settings link on the Welcome to Box Sync page. You cannot customize the folder location after clicking Start Syncing.

  2. Click the Change... button to select an alternate folder location.
  • If your administrator has already customized the Box Sync folder location, you will not be able to override your administrator's changes. You will see an error message if you attempt to change the location.
  • Select the parent location for the "Box Sync" folder. Note: you are selecting the folder where Box Sync will create the "Box Sync" folder. For example, if you select C:\Users, then Box Sync will sync your files to C:\Users\Box Sync.
  • You can only change the name of the "Box Sync" folder via administrator customization options.

  • You cannot have an existing folder called "Box Sync" in the location you select

  • The Box Sync settings window automatically displays the newly-selected folder location for Box Sync. Click Done. The Box Sync settings screen reverts to the Box Sync home screen.
  • Click Start Syncing to begin syncing your items to the new location.

Hope it helps! Let us know in the Community if you have additional questions.

Hi Ronna,

thank you for your response.

Yes, it actually worked in Box Sync. I used it for years. I just replaced it because I got a message saying it’s discontinued. Why would I install an app that is officially being discontinued?

This is very confusing. Box’s UX sucks.

By the way, I don’t have an administrator. I am the admin, since it’s my private account.
