I have an end user that every time he adds a file to box he also creates folder called “~Bromium”. It creates it in whatever folder he is working on. He also has an error from his box drive about not being able to delete these folders. I had him uninstall box drive, I deleted all 200 of these folders he created and when he installed box drive in a day or two he went back to creating these folders again.

Any suggestions?

Also, is this really the only way to get support for Box?

Hi @cburkha

Welcome to Box Community and we’re glad to assist!

You should check if the HP Wolf Enterprise Security is running in the affected user’s machine. If yes, please note that this is an expected behavior.

Here’s the troubleshooting steps that fixed the issue:

  • I uninstalled the HP Wolf security program from my PC;
  • I restarted the PC;
  • I made hidden files visible (using the File explorer options utility);
  • I made the protected operative system files visible (using the File explorer options utility);
  • by doing so, I could see all the ~BROMIUM folders scattered in my personal files and folders;
  • so I selected and erased them;
  • I made hidden and protected files hidden again .

I highly recommend on working with your IT Team, and let them know that when an Anti-virus softwares interferes with Box Drive, it is possible to exclude the Box Drive root folder or "mount location" (C:\Users\Me\Box , /Users/Me/Box , or /Users/Me/Library/CloudStorage/Box-Box) from scanning.

Hope it works! Meanwhile, if the user continues to experience this issue please submit a case to our Box Product Support team.
