Cannot reopen a file after renaming it

Every time I rename a file (no matter what type) it will not reopen. I get the thing to click to supposedly fix this but it still will not work.

Be sure to maintain the file extension after renaming it

.pdf

.jpg

.doc

Sometimes I rename things and forget the file extension, but if you rename it again with the file extension, it will be recognizable and open again.

If you are preserving the file extension, then, I am not able to help~
