When I move the "Box-Box-Backup" folder to the bin, after I confirm with my computer password permission. It will show "The operation can’t be completed because “Box-Box-Backup” needs to be downloaded."

By the way, I didn't remember how comes the "Box-Box-Backup" folder.

Hi there,

Welcome to Box Community and glad to help!

Can we start by confirming your current Box version and your Operating System?

We'd love to hear back from you!

I'm having the same problem.  This folder on my local drive is identical in size to my Box on-line drive and taking up a considerable amount of local disk space.  Is this part of the cache or can it be removed?  I run into the same error message:

"The operation can’t be completed because “Box-Box-Backup” needs to be downloaded."

yet the file is over 14GB according to the Mac OS.   I'm running Box 2.33.130 and Mac OS 11.7.7

I have had the same problem. Found this solution:

  1. Give the Terminal app ‘Full Disk Access’ via the Mac: System Settings -> Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access (if Terminal.app is not visible it can be added with the ‘+’; it is in the ‘Utilities’ folder)
  2. Open, or close and reopen, the Terminal app
  3. Navigate to your Mac user folder, if not already there. Enter: CD ~/.
  4. Enter: LS (this lists the folders and files. which should include the “Box-Box-Backup” folder created by the “SUDO ...” command copied from following the instructions on the web page: Troubleshooting "Box Drive encountered an error at initialization that requires you to manually move aside your existing Box folder"…
  5. Enter: RM -R Box-Box-Backup

Be careful with the RM command as it deletes files permanently with no possibility to recover them. The -R option makes it even more hazardous, as it deletes all subfolders and files.

In my experience, this will remove all of the contents of the Box-Box-Backup folder, but not the folder itself. The empty folder can be moved to Trash with the standard Mac delete command (cmd-bksp) and entering the Admin password when prompted.

Hope this helps
