We are looking into getting a business starter account for our employees. We have external contractors that have email addresses with our domain. When I invite them to collaborate in a folder, would they get an invite to create a free account or would they become a paid user under our plan?

Hi Simone,

Welcome to the Box Community, I'm happy to help!

When you invite to collaborate a user who does not have a Box account and is using an email domain that is claimed by your Box organization, an account will be provisioned and that user will automatically become a managed user under your Box instance.

Please look through this article for further details: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043693694-Collaboration-Invites-Create-An-Account

This was put into place to limit security risks and can be avoided by having your users creating Lite accounts prior to accepting the collaboration invite.

Thanks for reaching out and let us know if you have other questions.

All the Best,

Hi France,

Does that mean that we will automatically get billed for that user? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Simone

Hi Simone,

This user will count on your seats/licenses which you will be billed for.

If you have additional questions about seats/licenses, billing and anything related to upgrading your account, I strongly encourage that you email our billing team at billing@box.com to help address those.

Thanks again for reaching out and feel free to write back in if there's anything we may assist you with!

Regards,
