I have a user who is being prompted to updated Box Tools, when they try to install a new version it says: "The older version of Box Tools cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group". When trying to uninstall from control panel it errors out. I then deleted everything I could find in File Explorer and in the Registry. Now it doesn't show as installed in control panel but still gives the error above.

Hi Nathan,

Welcome to the Box Community!

Can you please try to uninstall traces of Box Tools on the user's PC using the Box Edit cleaner to see if this will resolve the issue.  https://cloud.app.box.com/v/BoxEditCleaner

I trust that the above steps will do the trick. Otherwise, let me know if the problem continues to exist.

Thank you for posting!

Best,
Ann

Hi Ann,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I was able to get it to work after running the "To Remove a per-user (.EXE) Installation (single user).

Thanks for your help.

Nathan

Hi Ann, I came across this article because I'm having the same issues with both box tools and box drive. 361673296907 Running the powershell script didn't work as far as i can tell. After I ran it, i still see in installed as a program in the control panel, and it couldn't be uninstalled from there, and I couldn't start a new installation because the installer is throwing the error that old files can't be removed. I don't know where to go from here. It's possible I'm doing something wrong but the instructions were pretty clear.

I've been taken care of.
