Hello,

My coworker set up a shortcut on my desktop to access my Box files in File Explorer.   I recently lost access to Box and now have it back, but the path for it to open in File Explorer is gone.  I tried to created a new shortcut, but it opens up on the Web.  I need help for the shortcut to open back up in File Explorer.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank You.

Hi @DCO1228

Welcome to Box Community, and we’d love to assist!

It sounds like you’ve created a shortcut to your Box Drive folder in Windows File Explorer. Since you lost access and regained it, the original shortcut path may no longer be valid or the Box Drive app might not be running properly.

Here are steps to restore a working shortcut that opens Box files in File Explorer:

  1. Ensure Box Drive is installed and running on your computer. You can start it from the Start menu by searching for “Box Drive”.

  2. Once Box Drive is running, open File Explorer and navigate to your user profile folder, typically at C:\UserslYourUsername]\Box — this is the default Box Drive folder location.

  3. To create a new shortcut:

    • Right-click the Box folder in File Explorer.
    • Select “Create shortcut.”
    • Move this shortcut to your desktop.
  4. Lastly, please uninstall and re-install your Box Drive application.

If after reinstalling or restarting Box Drive the folder does not appear or remains blank, try restarting Box Drive or logging out and back in.

Hope it works, and please let us know how it goes.
