Windows 11. Box Drive stopped working with no error messages. Tried to uninstall program at Control Panel but error message claims that it can't locate installation file "Box.2.49.257.msi.” Search of C: drive cannot find file. Tried to reinstall Box Drive but received same error message. How do I completely remove and reinstall Box Drive under these circumstances?

Hi @CommanderRet,

Welcome to Box Community and glad to assist!

If Box Drive cannot be uninstalled because Windows cannot find Box.2.49.257.msi, please follow the steps below to fully remove and reinstall Box Drive on Windows 11.

  1. Quit Box Drive Make sure Box Drive is fully closed before starting cleanup.

  2. Try to restore the missing installer If possible, download the exact Box Drive installer version referenced in the error, Box.2.49.257.msi, and place it in: C:\ProgramData\Box\Box\Installer\Box.2.49.257.msi

Then try uninstalling Box Drive again.

  3. If uninstall still fails, use Microsoft’s uninstall troubleshooter If you cannot obtain that exact installer, or uninstall continues to fail, please run Microsoft’s program install/uninstall troubleshooter.

  4. Manually remove remaining Box Drive components

If multiple Windows user profiles have used Box Drive on this computer, repeat the per-user cleanup for each profile.

  5. Reinstall Box Drive Once cleanup is complete, download and install the latest version of Box Drive from the Box website.

Please note: Any files in the Box Drive desktop location that have not uploaded to Box may be deleted during uninstall or cleanup. Please make sure any important unsynced content is backed up first if possible.
