I get a “Installation Failed” error message during installation of Box Drive Installer v. 6.2.0 on my iMac running MacOS 12.7.6 Monterey.

I have restarted the computer and redownloaded the installer and the error continues.

Hi @KSully, welcome to the Box Community! 👋

To help us better understand the issue you're experiencing, please review the troubleshooting steps below and provide the following additional information:

  • Please note that Box Drive only supports the two most recent major versions of macOS. Can you update your system to at least macOS 14 (Sonoma) and try the installation again?
  • If the issue persists:
    • Please provide the model of your Mac and if it is running an Intel or M1chip and above.
    • Are any other users or machines experiencing installation errors?
    • Were there any changes in the environment around the time installation started to fail?
    • Were you able to install Box Drive in the past?
    • Are you the administrator in this Mac?
    • Have you tried creating a new user profile and install Box Drive there?
    • What antivirus and local security software is installed on your machine? Third-party programs interfering with Box processes are known to result in crashes as well as installation and performance issues. To help alleviate this, we recommend working with your IT or Help Desk to exclude the following Box directories from local security scans:
      • MacOS
        • /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Box
        • /Users/USERNAME/Box

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this issue. 😊

I have the same problem with the same version on MacOS: 12.7.6. Supposedly the app works for earlier versions of the OS than the last two. If that’s the case, then Box is useless to those of us still running older hardware that Apple has jettisoned support for (in newer versions of MacOS they remove the drivers for older hardware).

My Mac is a 2014 Macbook Air, x86 (Intel) chip. I am an administrator. I’ve had no other problems with installations. I have not installed Box in the past. I have antivirus software (come on, this is a Mac). I have not tried installing on another User profile because it is so much work to close all my apps and then later reopen them and get the computer set up again the way I want it.

I do not think Box is going to have anything to help us, but it would be nice to know if you can install the Box app on a Mac running Monterey or some version beyond the most recent two. If you haven’t tried it, then you’ve written us off, those of us with older hardware. Just tell us if that’s the case, so we can write off Box.

Hi,

As the title suggests. Box drive keeps failing when I install on my Mac, operating system is Monteray 12.7.6, it’s my personal computer and I am not very techy, but would like to sync my OS folder with a Box folder so I can share with others. All help, gratefully received

Thanks

J

I am having this same issue. Late 2015 iMac. Just completed clean install. MacOS12.7.6. i7. Cannot get box drive to install. Get the installation message “installation failed” after it acts like it will install. Says running scripts, validating, etc. Then it fails. Please tell me there’s a work around. As I understand it, my machine will not run Sonoma so I can’t upgrade to that and try again.

I have a late-2015 iMac also with the same issue. A usable response from BOX would be helpful. I don’t even get log files from this install attempt.

Same issue here...on Monterey 12.7.6.

👋 Hi everyone, I completely understand your concerns regarding the installation failure with Monterey 12.7.6. I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve experienced.

As advised prior, please note that Box Drive currently supports only the two most recent major versions of macOS.

As per the latest update here: macOS 13 support EOL for Desktop Products

Box will end support for Box Drive, Box Sync, and Box Tools on macOS 13 on May 31st, 2025. In accordance with our OS support policy, organizations must be on a supported OS (macOS 14 or macOS 15) after this end of life (EOL) date to continue receiving Box support. After the EOL date, users will still have access to these applications on macOS 13; however, they will no longer receive any support from Box, including security patches.

I truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you have any suggestions or feedback about Box Drive or our products in general, we highly encourage you to share them on Box Pulse, or vote for ideas such as the Request for Long-Term-Support (LTS) release for Box Drive.
