Hello, how can I transfer the ownership of a folder hosted in Box Drive ?

Hi @fousekis,

Welcome to Box Community and we’re glad to walk you through in changing the folder owner.

To transfer the folder ownership, please head over to the Box website

In order to accomplish this, please have the owner to follow the steps below.

To transfer the folder ownership:

  • Locate the appropriate folder
  • Click the Collaboration Iconlpfplw9d9iuxrusry646chxq3p0owkdi.pngto the right of the folder name.
  • Alternatively, you can open More Options > More Actions and select Manage Collaborators.
  • Find the collaborator whose access level you would like to modify. You can search by name using the Filter Collaborators search box in the upper right.
  • Under the Permissions column, click the user's access level to modify it. Select the appropriate access level from the dropdown that appears. Select Owner from the access level dropdown (this option is only visible to folder owners). The collaborator you designate will be the new "Owner" of the folder and your access level will be downgraded to "Editor". The contents of the folder will no longer count against your account's storage allowance.

Hope it helps! Please let me know if you have questions.

Thank you Rona

I’ve looked at the various tips for transferring ownership but none seem to work for me. I am the account holder of a Personal Pro account with folders shared with collaborators. I am retiring and would like to transfer the entire folder to my replacement and have her name and email associated with the account, not mine.

Is this possible? If so, what are the steps?

Hi @AvCan

Welcome to Box Community and I moved your post to this related topic.

Looks like you’ve already tried a few steps to try to transfer the folder ownership. However, can we confirm if you’ve already used the instructions below?

Hi,

I’ve already tried those steps. The person I want to give permission to only has “Editor” or “Viewer” options. There is no “Owner” option.

Is this because this is a “Personal Pro” Account?

I tried doing it folder by folder but there is no “owner” option for anyone but me.

Thanks for your assistance,

Nancy

Hi @AvCan

Thank you for responding!

The ability to transfer the folder ownership is available for each users across all account types.

Can you confirm if you’re the owner, and can you name the folders you wanted to transfer the ownership?

We wait for your reply!

Hello,

I am the owner and it’s this folder <redacting publicly shared link> There are many sub-folders and files contained therein.

Thank you.
